College Ready Florida

Over the past year, in partnership with schools, districts and community organizations, Florida CAN has piloted three new programs, collectively referred to as College Ready Florida, that aim to build and strengthen a college-going culture throughout our state.During this webinar, you’ll learn more about Apply Yourself Florida, a statewide effort to increase the number of first-generation and low-income students pursuing a college degree or other higher education credential; the Florida FAFSA Challenge, a campaign to boost the number of Florida seniors completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); and Florida College Decision Day, held on or around April 26th this year to recognize and celebrate high school seniors for their postsecondary plans.

The National College Access Network (NCAN) has launched a national effort to boost FAFSA completion rates across the country to help more low-income and first-generation students access postsecondary education and training opportunities.  Join this webinar to learn more the Florida College Access Network’s statewide campaign, the Florida FAFSA Challenge, which encourages schools and districts in their state to set bold and attainable FAFSA completion goals and track their progress on a public data dashboard throughout the school year.

Searching for and selecting the right college can be a daunting task for many students and families, placing a premium on having easy access to clear and reliable data during the college-going process.  Join Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) and Florida College Access Network (Florida CAN) for a webinar on the redesigned College Scorecard, a database which provides free, transparent and nationally comparable data on thousands of colleges and career schools in the United States on student outcomes such as graduation rates, student debt and post-college earnings.  This webinar will include a presentation from Michael Itzkowitz, Director of the College Scorecard at the U.S. Department of Education, who will discuss ways to use this helpful resource as well as answer questions from those attending the webinar.


BeyondEducation.org: Earnings and Other Outcomes of Florida’s Postsecondary Graduates and Completers

For the cost-conscious, picking the right college involves not only knowing how much college costs, but how it will pay off in the end.  Join Florida College Access Network (Florida CAN) for a webinar on the workforce and economic outcomes of Florida’s college completers, featuring a presentation by Mark Schneider, president of College Measures.  The webinar will include an overview of BeyondEducation.org, an online data portal which allows users to access earnings and other outcomes for all public postsecondary institutions in Florida, as well as the 2015 Economic Security Report, which highlights key findings and trends on Florida’s college completers.  The presentation will also discuss implications for school counselors, college advisors, students and parents among others.
